Is DirecTV Really the Prudent Choice?

Every satellite programming service provider claims to be the best choice on the market. If you read their promotional articles, they would all have you believe that their toll free customer service number will be answered by the president of the company, if you should call it. That their entry level programming package has a million channels and will only cost you a buck or two.

Every one of them claims to be the recognized leader in the industry and all of their programming choices will put you into cardiac arrest, due to the level of excitement that they will bring you to. Once you sign up with them though, you are stuck with them, because they all have extended programming contracts that you have to commit to.

The fact is that they all have basically the same programs that they provide for you, that are arranged and marketed in their own particular programming packages. DirecTV stands apart from all the others in the area of sports programming though. They have a full twenty-five sports channels to choose from. They also have exclusive rights to a few sports channels that you cant get from any other service provider.

They charge extra for the exclusive channels, because they are expensive for them to carry, due to the fact that no other service provider has access to them. For sports programming, DirecTV is top dog on the block and no other service provider can match them in his area. All of the service providers will give you a free satellite system now including DirecTV. DirecTV now throws in a free digital camera for you when you join their family of TV viewers.

They do this, because they want to give more then all the other service providers do in their promotional packages. They also want you to know that they appreciate your business. DirecTV carries Hughes electronics exclusively, because Hughes has a proven track record, in top of the line, straight forward and easy to use durable products.

The five models of Hughes receivers that they have for you to choose from are the Director, the Executive with DVR, the Executive with DVR powered by TiVo and two Models of high definition receivers. One has DVR powered by Tivo and the other one is a basic model that has no DVR. They give you the Receivers for their standard programming packages, but you have to pay a little extra for the high definition receivers.

Its not much though and it is necessary to offset the added expense of the high definition receivers. If a service provider will give you a free high definition receiver, its because it is a lower quality less reliable receiver with fewer functions. What some service providers do is give their receivers flashy names that you would expect to find on experimental aircraft or sports cars.

Hughes receivers dont have exotic names, but they do have lots of easy to use and reliable functions for you. What you dont need is to have a receiver that has malfunctions, because a policy on replacing or repairing faulty equipment is something that is not mentioned in their promotional hype. Not only will you be stuck with the faulty receiver, but you will also be stuck with the extended programming service contract. Learn to ask the right questions before you select a satellite service provider.
